Local filmmaker to premiere short film at Studio Movie Grill Dallas

0

Forget six degrees of separation. If you’re a gay in Dallas, it’s like 1.23 degrees and a tube of Herpes cream that separates us.

So it should come as no surprise when watching Dallas-based Martini the Movie that you’re bound to recognize someone you know, someone you’ve slept with, and someone whose Miley Cyrus memorabilia collection you’ve set fire to (and that could very well be one person).

Local filmmaker and stud muffin Robert Camina’s latest short film is all about an aging Hollywood diva named Martini Glass, a character created by her portrayer, Steven Jay Crabtree.

After fading away from the silver screen, it’s time for her to make a Gloria Swanson-esque return to fame and glory. Only she has to audition for the part.

Along the way, she fills us in on some of Hollywood’s dirtiest secrets, but it’s the musical grand finale shot all over Dallas that is sublimely entertaining. Skewering every convention of movie-musical choreography in one montage, Camina creates an infectiously witty parody of the genre.

But before the musical number, we’re treated to some great one-liners. After all, how could you not love a movie that describes sex between men as “ballet with semen?”

The world premiere will screen along with a previous short film of Camina’s, the equally enjoyable Hunter4Love. Great prizes and surprises are in store for the evening all culminating in an afterparty that’ll be more exciting than anything else possible on a Monday night.

Plus, now that we’ve seen Robert’s shorts, it’s time for a full-length feature. Or at the very least, he should show us a little skin.
