The show will go on for Rowlett High’s Rent thanks to Mix 102.9
Garland ISD canceled the Rowlett High School production of Rent, the High School Edition after complaints from some parents. (Apparently they didn't appreciate the underlying themes of drugs, homosexuality and AIDS. Yeah, best let the kids learn about that stuff for themselves right?) The show, however, will go on thanks to the Dallas radio station Mix 102.9, who is covering the cost of sheet music and a venue for the students. The performances will now take place at SMU on January 31.

Oh, Dang!
Ok, If I didn't already love these guys for employing one of my favorite actors, Joe Kelly, then they have my love for this!

*"When we let them know that we had a place, we had an outlet and we wanted them to do it if they were up for it, they were thrilled and excited," said Mix 102.9 morning show host Tony Zazza. "It was great to see the smiles on their faces."*
What a whip. Dude's quoted in yesterday's article for such an awesome cause, and <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2009/jan/19/clear-channel-communications-five-radio-stations-d/#c43790">today he gets axed</a>. Bad day, to say the least.

I think this is absolutely GREAT!!! It's ashame that the hypocritical Garland ISD School board crumbled under the pressure of a few uninformed parents at the school. The school board was well aware that controversial parts of the play were edited out and approved the play last spring. I'm just glad that the kids will get to perform what they worked so hard for all year long.

A few uninformed parents can reek havoc on a great many things in a world that dodges normal conflict like the plague.

Thats the problem with this part of the country, you have too many right-tilting, God fearing nutjobs who think anything outside of sunday service is EEEEVILE!! Thank God my wife and I are rational people whos are going to be raising a rational child, who can think for themselves.

It's a pity that Joe Kelly and Tony Zazza were LET GO by Mix 102.9 earlier this week, immediately after this wonderful announcement had been made. Bad, bad, bad radio station!
