Connemara Conservancy, a nonprofit land trust dedicated to preserving and protecting open space and natural beauty in north central Texas, has named RJ Taylor to the position of conservation director.

Taylor brings 15 years of experience in the environmental consulting field, and numerous years as a geologist in the oil and gas industry to the organization.

A licensed professional geologist and certified professional wetland scientist, Taylor has completed the Texas Master Naturalist program and currently serves as president of the North Texas Association of Environmental Professionals (NTAEP).

“RJ shares Connemara’s vision to be a nationally recognized leader in the protection and conservation of ecosystems, critical habitats and natural landscapes,” said Susan Armstrong, executive director of Connemara. “He will be a true asset to the organization as we continue to preserve the natural beauty in North Texas for present and future generations.”

In the role, Taylor will manage existing conservation easements, cultivate new easements and outreach to potential land partners.

Taylor’s previous experience includes four years with a Dallas-based engineering firm where he oversaw environmental permitting, wetlands delineation, mitigation and natural resources site assessments for developmental and transportation projects. Prior to that, Taylor performed natural resources evaluation, wetlands creation and watershed management for Harris County.

Taylor has been a volunteer with Connemara Conservancy, and served as technical advisory staff for several nonprofit, state and federal natural resources committees and organizations in the Houston area.
