The Girl Scouts say their peanut butter cookies won’t kill you

Despite a nationwide crackdown on any-and-all peanut butter products due to a salmonella outbreak, the Girl Scouts of North Texas would like you to know that their peanut butter cookies -- the utterly delicious Do-si-dos and Tagalongs -- are completely safe to eat. How can they be so confident? Even though the investigation is ongoing, the most likely source of the outbreak is a specific plant in Georgia that the Girl Scouts wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole.
So, eat away to your heart's content, satisfied in the knowledge that the cookies will take 30 years to kill you, not 30 minutes.

Ugh, way to take all my excuses for being a cheapskate.
At least my general level of creepery keeps children and parents from hassling me for money.

It's getting to where a person can't trust a pre-packaged food diet anymore. ;-)

I think I'd prefer children and parents to the usual suspects hassling me for money downtown.

Just to clarify, Samoas aren't under fire for anything immediately life-threatening?
This is serious business.

Scott, I think you're safe either way. I don't see peanut butter listed in the ingredients (pdf).

The Girl Scouts crisis continues amid allegations that the group has lightened portions, by either making smaller-sized cookies or, in the case of Thin Mints, Do-si-dos and Tagalongs, packaging fewer per box.
Ok, "allegations" is strong. The Girl Scouts have actually come out and said they've lessened the portions, using the excuse of the rising cost of staple products.
Meanwhile, get me some dang Samoas, please!
