Obarma hopping in Dallas: Inauguration night 2009

As the promise of change swept across the nation there were many who thought, "let's party." And they did, from Washington D.C., to New York, and, yes, even to Dallas. A number of inaugural parties took place worldwide, and with due diligence in mind and journalistic integrity on the line, we partook in a few ourselves.

Inaugural stop, Trinity Hall: Hosted by the Dallas County Democratic Party, Trinity Hall was packed to a standing-room crowd, with televisions and the projector screen playing live coverage of various balls taking place around Washington. A mid-thirties to fifties crowd, a number of patrons sported red, white, and blue buttons, hats and, in some cases, boas. There were a plethora of Barack shirts to be found, and even a few babies, as the event was more family oriented, despite the obvious bar setting.

Liberals at the Libertine: The social-political group Drinking Liberally takes their title literally, and it was no different on Tuesday night, as some of the Dallas chapter met at the Libertine Bar on Greenville Avenue. Though the Libertine is generally more laid back, and rarely packed, one could distinguish that this healthy group was far more than the typical Tuesday night crowd. Playing footage of Kanye West's performance at the D.C. Youth Ball, the bar patrons were considerably more interested in deciding upon their next microbrew.

And Finnally: Apparently for the Dallas County Young Democrats, Inauguration Day is similar to St. Patrick's Day: drink early and go home earlier. Though the event was slated to last from 7 to 10 p.m., the BlackFinn was sparsely populated by 9:45 p.m. Having chosen this place last given the "young" designation, we were a little surprised not to see the youth vote jager-bombing their way to change. But at least the many, many screens were showing pictures of the man of the hour dancing away the last carefree night of his life.

Finding no Republican-hosted parties to crash on the lineup we headed home instead, with dreams of peaceful transition and Anderson Cooper 360 to help us sleep through the night. If only every Tuesday could Ba-rock so hard. *insert sarcastic trombone notes*

I hope Obama was wearing Depends for his meeting with the security and military advisors.

I would love to have been a fly on the wall.

Republicans (and conservatives) are waiting for the inevitable implosion of the most corrupt congress in history (111th Congress), then the celebration will happen.

I prepared a massive orgy of favorite wonderful foods the night before….15 hour brisket, turkey meatloaf, shrimp remoulade, chipotle brown rice, assorted vegetables, Italian marinate tomatoes, red onions, olives in fresh shredded Parmesan....fresh berries in honey cream, ………….guacamole, the works….and ate the day and night away enjoying every vignette. What a great day and night piled up with the laptop in bed with that ongoing bed tray buffet and the 2 cats and 2 dogs strategically strewn. That was the best 'Mental Health day' I can remember.

Time to heal and get out of the fog of seven years...and realize...1929 to 1933, is a reality we cant relive, but the events have simular effect in terms of population, production and finally, getting to work again, with some real programs.....now where is that needle in that haystack.....A/T, Good Luck... to the new Chief..

The people Obama are putting in place to guide us through this economic time are the same faces that led us into the mess.

Change you can believe in. And none of them ever worried about making payroll, they are all pigs at the government trough.

Gaitner avoided paying taxes and deducted his children's summer camp expenses as a childcare expense. The gall of democrats to say we need to pay more, then avoid paying their own fair share is overwhelming. Look at Rangle, Dodd, Biden, and Gov. Pattterson.

I give more to charity than Biden and he makes about 15 times my salary and has alot batter perks.

I think the pegasusnews people must be really old. I was at the Dallas Young Dems party last night and it was packed, but if you writers were really in the "know" you would know that young people bar hop religiously, so after a huge party at black fin, and it was packed between 7 and 9, the bar hopping started. Maybe you guys should get with the times. Young people don't sit around and wait for people to come to us!

Kevy, you are correct. At my old age of 27, my arthritis kicked in right around 9:30 and I just couldn't take it anymore. Do tell, where did the bar-hoppity young Dems head after BlackFinn? Because they seemed to be filing out of everywhere else we checked by 10ish.

Please excuse me, I must go. Those damn kids with their crazy hip-rap music are on my lawn again.
