Entrepreneurs Foundation of North Texas recognized by the City of Dallas for Freedom Day efforts

— Mayor Tom Leppert recognized the Entrepreneurs Foundation of North Texas this week on behalf of the Dallas City Council for its "service and generosity" to the city's firefighters and paramedics. The recognition, which came during a City Council meeting, was in response to EFNT's Freedom Day 2008, which brought together more than 375 volunteers from North Texas businesses on September 11 for a day of community service to honor the lives lost and changed by the events of 9/11.

For the event, EFNT, a fund at Communities Foundation of Texas, partnered with the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department to undertake repairs and renovations - including painting, landscaping and woodwork refinishing - at six local stations.

"Due to budget constraints, firefighters live and work with increasingly deteriorating conditions," said Pam Gerber, executive director of EFNT. "This project was a true reflection of the power of goodwill. We had an outpouring of support from more than 40 member companies, and the volunteers were so inspired that they even came back to the fire stations after the initial day of service to finish up projects. It's humbling to be recognized for doing this work, but the true recognition belongs to the Dallas-Fire Rescue forces who risk their lives every day for our community."

Freedom Day is an annual service project for the more than 70 North Texas companies that participate in EFNT. Previous events have been held in partnership with such organizations as Catholic Charities, Interfaith Housing Coalition, the Wilkinson Center, Community Homes for Adults Incorporated, Camp Summit, Junior Achievement and The Science Place.
