Michael Irvin to cash in on reality TV boon with ridiculously stupid Dallas Cowboys show
Michael Irvin apparently loves the concept behind American Idol so much that he's doing the same thing for the Dallas Cowboys. The reality-based show will take 12 NFL wannabes and give them a chance to win a spot on the Cowboys' training camp roster. According to this article in the DMN, Irvin's plan for the contestants is that "they likely will need a football background -- just not too much." The show will feature guest appearances from a number of former Cowboys, while Jerry Jones will be one of several judges.
Considering the massive implosion of this past season, the Cowboys don't need some guy off the street with "not too much" football background. The players are already celebrities. What the team needs now are championship football players who can hold it together for an entire season. Why waste a roster spot that could go to someone who's played all through college, who has worked his butt off for years, and who has an actual level of skill necessary for playing at in the NFL?
Granted, could we expect Irvin and Jones to pass up an opportunity to shine the spotlight on themselves? Probably not.

If idiots keep buying tickets and shirts, do you think it matters if the team does well or not?

Actually, it might be a refreshing change to see a player on the roster who actually busts his butt. Besides Flozell, I mean.
