Red is one of the most successful color schemes in military and Texas Rangers history

— The Texas Rangers introduced their new home, road and alternate uniforms for the 2009 season on Friday, and red will be a significant part of the attire. The Rangers wore red uniforms from 1994-2000, including 1996 and 1998-99, when they won three division titles, and many fans have longed for a return to that color.

For the first time, each of the Rangers' new uniform tops will be a cooler mesh fabric as opposed to the more traditional double knit design. Other significant changes include the same font for the lettering on the front and back of all jerseys and also new trim and piping on all the jerseys, including fronts, backs, sleeves and pant legs. The Rangers will also go from royal blue to black belts and shoes both home and away.

I think the heavy coats are going to cut down on the range of the fielders. The muskets should help though in rundown situations and close plays at homeplate.

Its all about merchandising. They will swap back and fourth between red and blue as long as it means more apparel sells.
