Farmers Branch proves it’s expensive - and distracting - to legislate immigration at the city level
Farmers Branch has thus far spent over $1.5 million on legal fees trying to legislate illegal immigrants out of their fair city, and Mayor Tim O'Hare figures they might be about halfway through the process.
This as City Councilfolk met on Friday (Jan. 23) in an all-day session to come up with ways to raise revenue in the face of a declining economy.
Proving, it seems, that it's easier to be an immigration policy trendsetter at the municipal level when property values and sales tax revenues are not trending downward.

The left, in typical fashion, always relies on the courts and media to intimidate the oppostion and those they oppose. They can't win atthe ballot box so they use the judical system, supported by MSM.
There is a reason why the left doesnt' want a citizen initiative ballot to be approved in Texas. They would lose on the issues every time. In California, where citizen initiatives have been available for decades, the left regrets giving citizens such power.
Their tactics represent tyranny of the minority over the majority.

I'm really surprised they haven't got more clever on this.
If I were trying to really reign in city costs and focus on citizens, I'd put my energy into prioritizing resources. Don't disallow anything - people call that bigotry. Just focus on citizens. If you have a large proven percentage of citizens in your facility, you get bumped up the list ahead of a "less citizened" facility. That way, if a landlord is dead set on profiting from illegals, he can logically handle the costs of services contracted outside the city and the costs of compliance outside the municipal system. Sure it puts him on the radar for compliance infractions, but that's free market.
If it's all about money and citizens, make it all about money and citizens.
How would that get ya labeled as a bigot? (No, seriously, I'm curious - not being belligerent for a change) I
