Texas Woman’s University to host math and science conference for middle school girls
More middle school girls will be exposed to math and science careers during the “Expanding Your Horizons™ in Science and Mathematics” conference to be held at Texas Woman’s University Saturday, Feb. 21.
Young women in sixth, seventh or eighth grade are eligible to attend the conference, which runs from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the TWU Denton campus. The registration fee is $10 per person and the event is open to the first 350 girls who apply. Registration is open through Saturday, Feb. 9, and scholarships for attendees are available. The “Expanding Your Horizons™ in Science and Mathematics” conference is presented by the American Association of University Women - Denton Branch, the TWU College of Arts and Sciences, the TWU Leadership Institute, the Expanding Your Horizons™ Network and the Denton County Women’s Education Network, Inc.
Conference participants will meet female leaders in the fields of math and science and learn more about math and science careers and what education and skills are needed to succeed. Workshops will be offered on chemistry, zoology, entomology, engineering, nursing and other topics. Parents and teachers can also attend sessions on picking out courses, how to use a graphing calculator and how to apply for financial aid and scholarships.
