I'd like to report the break in and vandalism of my car at my address on Bretshire to help raise awareness.

I did make a report.

Police took it over the phone and did not come to my residence although a fingerprint woman did later that day to find no prints.

This incident is interesting as the level of damage was a bit beyond just a theft.

My car was parked in my driveway under my carport that opens to the alley between Bretshire and Sweetwater.

At 8:00 AM Sat. the 10th my neighbor heard a loud thump....then silence then a second loud thump at 8:05.

I heard nothing but saw that the windshield had been broken when I went out later that morning. Then I found the driver side door had been broken but the door never unlocked or opened, which would have triggered the alarm. This car also has a motion detector and a glass break alarm which was not triggered for an unknown reason.

The $150 navigation system that was tucked into the bottom cubby of the dash was the only thing missing.

They did extensive damage to the exterior door panel...not part of the break-in. Hit the door in three places below the window and then broke the windshield....maybe as a calling card.

First estimate was $1500-$2000 to repair it all...glass, body work, paint work and window trim.

They were careful enough to not touch the car, leave no prints, and to not trigger the alarm.

I'm so sorry it has taken me so long to get you this, things have been chaotic since the break in (just trying to fix the broken window and securing the house. )

Here is a summary of what happened.

My house got broken into last Wednesday, January 21st at approximately 1:10 pm. My alarm company notified me and contacted the police. When I got to the house, the house was surrounded by the Dallas police and the corner of Greenmeadow and Forestcliff were blocked off. There was a police officer with a rifle in driveway. I was informed that the back window had been broken into. The police arrived very quickly and the three perpetrators tried to flee, they were able to catch only one of them but managed to recover my laptop, the only thing that was stolen.

Luckily, no one was harmed and all of my property was recovered. I am super impressed with all the Dallas Police did. They also told me it was my alarm that saved me! So thanks a million to my alarm and the Dallas Police!
