UPDATED: Dallas-based Brinker rumored to have laid off approximately 160 people, shutting down stores
Two sources, both "reliable," have called with sad news:
- 1. that Dallas-based Brinker International, which operates Chili's among others, laid off nearly 160 employees on Thursday, and
- 2. that the company will be closing 35 company-owned stores in February.
UPDATE: Five days later, this story gets reported by the Dallas Morning News. You know what's funny about the DMN story? It says the layoffs were "confirmed". It doesn't say the layoffs were rumored, or that they appeared on Pegasus News -- it just says they were confirmed.
Looks like they lifted yesterday's DBJ story, which took the same ambiguous strategy: "Brinker International Inc. ... confirmed news reports Monday that the restaurant company laid off 155 employees last week." Which news reports? Our news report! Yay.
