Dallas-based Wingstop predicts 3.5 million wings will be sold on Super Bowl Sunday

Traditionally, Super Bowl nets Dallas-based Wingstop its biggest sales day of the year, and this year is unlikely to be an exception. The chicken-wing-only chain estimates that more than 3.5 million chicken wings will be sold systemwide at their 400+ locations in 28 states on the day of the big game.

If this seems cocky, especially in the face of the flagging economy, it's important to keep in mind that, since Wingstop was formed 15 years ago, Super Bowl Sunday has consistently netted the chain its largest gross sales day each year. Each year has topped the year prior. The wing-centric chain sees no reason for this trend to reverse. And because the volume has increased from year to year, the wing-obsessed chain is reminding wing fans to place their orders early.

I really never got into chicken wings as being too greasy and fatty but looks like beer is a great chaser. At least beer is healthy.

Reminds me of that Far Side cartoon from at least a decade ago. It showed chickens flopped and sprawled everywhere -- draped raggedly over fence railings, hanging limp from the edge of the water trough, laying flat all over the farm yard.

It was called "The Boneless Chicken Ranch."

Always love an excuse to show Far Side stuff -- thanks, Bill:
