Dallas-Fort Worth schools could get much needed funding with passing of stimulus bill

0

On Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Obama-backed economic stimulus bill and sometime next week the Senate is expected to vote on a similar version of the bill. If the final bill passes both houses, it would double federal spending on education.

This is how much Prosper ISD is getting.

This is how much Prosper ISD is getting.

The U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor released estimates for how much the various school districts across the nation would receive. Topping the list for Dallas-Fort Worth schools is, of course, Dallas ISD, which could receive approximately $140 million in 2009 and nearly $62 million in 2010. Fort Worth comes in second at $63 million and $29 million, followed by Arlington, Garland, Richardson, and Plano.

Much of the money that will be doled out to schools will be dedicated to improving education for low-income children (or as Dubya called them, "poor kids") and the learning disabled, and to fixing up/building new schools.
