McKinney announces $5.1 million budget shortfall
Foreclosures are up, home sales are down, $200 million in development is stalled, and the budget is shortfalling into a pit of despair in McKinney. But officials are hopeful and, no, it's not because they're all on drugs.
Despite the $5.1 million budget shortfall announced this week, McKinney intends to keep spending on projects like a convention center, a hotel, and the Dr Pepper Star Center ice rink (if the economy gets you down, checking someone into the boards is a great stress reliever). Officials say that while other cities were firing employees and cutting spending, McKinney was hiring and increasing salaries. Somehow that, combined with a shortfall, add up to good things.

Mike_Holcomb, says:
If the federal government can plan to massively increase spending despite its previously planned massive budget shortfall, why can't McKinney? Or the other 50 individual state budget shortfalls? Balanced budgets are so 20th century...
