Mesquite Symphony Orchestra plays traditional songs of Scotland and Ireland

The Mesquite Symphony Orchestra continues its 2008-2009 concert season on January 31st, when the MSO features music that celebrates the fun and characteristic sounds of the music of Scotland and Ireland. In this program, the MSO will perform selections from Brigadoon and Braveheart. Hear traditional songs of Scotland and Ireland including "Danny Boy," "Killarney," "The Blue Bells of Scotland," "Black Velvet Band," "The Irish Washerwoman," "Loch Lomond," "Come Back to Erin," "The Last Rose," "Brian Boru’s March," and "Askokan Farewell." This is truly a festival of Celtic music that will include a legion of songs that are familiar to so many.

Come early and enjoy the traditional Irish songs performed by BEHAN. BEHAN gives traditional Irish pub singing tunes "a rousing, kicked-up spin". This "Wall of MaleVoice Quintet" is made up of brothers Bernard "Barney" (guitar & mandolin), Michael (pennywhistle, concertina & fiddle), and Joseph (bodhran & harmonica) Behan along with brother-in-law Joe Morris (bodhran & snare) and grade school buddy Russ George (guitar & bodhran). BEHAN's influences include The Clancy Brothers, The Dubliners, The Irish Rovers, DFW's own Irish Rogues, Bing Crosby and daddy Behan's predilection to inundate their young ears with the jigs reels and barndances of the 78 player variety. Somehow the punk music scene, liturgical music and the Arlington Drum and Bugle corps factor in as well.

Behan begins at 6:45pm and the MSO performance begins at 7:30 pm. Both performances are at Mesquite Arts Center in the Concert Hall. Praised as one of the area’s best performance venues, The Mesquite Arts Center supports multiple arts disciples including music, drama, visual arts and literary programming; The 500 seat Concert Hall features a canopy stage that is both intimate and acoustically impressive. The Black Box Theatre is completely flexible for both the audience and theatrical artists. The Arts Center also features The Mesquite Arts Center the Main and Chamber Galleries, the Jeann & Ralph Wisenbaker Courtyard and the Rehearsal Hall.

Tickets for the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra performances are $12.00 Adults, $8.00, Seniors and $6.00 Students. They are available the evening of the concert, beginning one hour before each concert. Members of the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra Association and Mesquite Symphony Guild receive complementary tickets based on their membership level.
