Live music events in Dallas-Fort Worth July 2-5

0

Oh, only one of the biggest, longest running tours comes to town this weekend, preceded by a number of other firework-worthy shows.

Thursday

Peter Hook, one of the founding members of Joy Division and New Order, will be performing a DJ set at the Lizard Lounge on Thursday. He's also one of the featured artists on The Crystal Method's latest album, Divided By Night. Speaking of that album, listen to the last track featuring Meiko. Incredible.

Also on Thursday, reggae eight-piece Aton will be performing at the Levitt Pavilion.

Friday

God help me, I still love me some Less Than Jake.

God help me, I still love me some Less Than Jake.

On Friday night, the Lakewood Theater will host a 94.5 The Edge Reunion show featuring a number of the original airstaff and performances from some Deep Ellum era bands and musicians, including Zack Malloy from The Nixons, John Easdale of Dramarama, Pop Poppins, Deep Blue Something, and The Bat Mastersons.

Described in his bio as a "ghetto griot whose musical works personifies life in the streets and that of everyday people," at the very least you need to check out Chico DeBarge at the House of Blues to find out what a griot is. Chico opens for Joe.

Saturday

Any show on July 4 will claim to be a "FOURTH OF JULY" show, but in reality, they're concerts like any other. If you're feeling like skipping the fireworks and just checking out a show, the Riverboat Gamblers are back in town at Rubber Gloves in Denton. For a little country, because that's what a reaaaal patriot would listen to, check out Diamond Rio at DFW's preeminent honky tonk, Billy Bob's Texas.

Sunday

So Sunday is the biggest day, you say? That's probably because one of the longest running tours in the U.S. hits Superpages.com Center, with all the skinny jeans and neon colors one can fit into the parking lot: Warped Tour. While the glut of the performers are for a younger demographic, with bands like Less Than Jake, Bad Religion, and Anti-Flag, there is still something for the fogeys.

Of course, if you like your music with a dash (heap) less punk, then Beyonce is at American Airlines Center and Candlebox is at the House of Blues.
