I-35E to be closed from Loop 12 to Harry Hines in northwest Dallas overnight on July 7 and 8

The Texas Department of Transportation is cooperating with DART, allowing the full closure of north and southbound I-35E from Loop 12 to Harry Hines Boulevard. Southbound I-35E will be closed Tuesday, July 7, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Northbound I-35E will be closed Wednesday, July 8, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

The closure is necessary so DART can restripe portions of the highway and shift lanes to the right. This will allow immediate installation of a concrete barrier to provide a safe work zone for construction of the Orange Line bridge column in the I-35E median. The restriping and temporary traffic shift will maintain the number of currently available lanes on I-35E, and will remain in place for the next three to four months as construction is completed.

TxDOT asks motorists to drive carefully through the work zone, and has placed electronic message boards to notify the public of the scheduled closures. Police officers will also be present to monitor traffic during the closure. Motorists traveling southbound on I-35E will be rerouted to Loop 12, Highway 114, and then north on Storey Lane/Spur 482, underneath I-35E to southbound Harry Hines and back onto I-35E. Motorists traveling northbound will be re-routed to Harry Hines and then Northwest Highway back to I-35E.

DART is constructing the Orange Line to North Irving/DFW. This portion includes a bridge structure from the junction with the Green Line at the Bachman Station over Harry Hines Boulevard and I-35E, then along Storey Lane/Spur 482, finally across the Trinity River, landing alongside the southbound Spur 482 frontage road.
