Coppell reports a patriotic, polka-filled Fourth of July
Views of the Coppell parade (July 3, 2009)
Coppell hosted a Patriotic Parade on July 3 this year, with events culminating in a fireworks display at Andrew Brown Park (following a musical performance by Brave Combo).
Coppell's official Fourth of July fireworks this year actually took place on the evening of July 3 (as so many around the North Texas area did, for some reason).
According to Coppell Special Events Coordinator Sherri Lewis (who provided the photos in the attached gallery), everyone had a big ol' time at the civic shindig on the actual Fourth, which began with a patriotic parade through the city streets and ended with a 20-minute fireworks show at Andrew Brown Park.
Participants (from Coppell and surrounding areas) enjoyed food and drink; kids thrilled to a King Kong inflatable slide; and Brave Combo provided their famous polka stylings for the enjoyment of the crowd.
Next up in terms of city-sponsored whing dings is Oak Fest, which happens at Andrew Brown Park on Oct. 17. Call the Coppell Parks and Rec Dept. at 972-462-5100 for further details.

We were at the July 3 event - it was absolutely wonderful!
It was what Garland use to be - before the whole Firewheel debacle.
Great setting, music, local small businesses as vendor, lots of free stuff for the kids, and you could bring in lawn chair and coolers!
We also parked about 1/2 mile away, so we got clear of traffic in under 5 minutes.
I (we) cannot say enough good things about this event. There was only one downside, Brave Combo was set up on an existing building patio - the main walkway was in front of them - no place to Polka.

It's local, it's an EVENT - it wasn't sponsored by big-business... give it all the attention you can!
