Slow Roosevelt, Fair to Midland will play opening weekend of Trees in Dallas
Opening night is slated for August 14, with more details coming soon.
While the information isn't exactly ready for release yet, it seems a few bands are just too excited to keep it under wraps.
The grand (re)opening of Trees in Deep Ellum is planned for August 14 and 15. So far, based on their own MySpace postings, it appears that Slow Roosevelt and Fair to Midland are playing, if not headlining, the two dates.
Clint Barlow, the man responsible for Trees' revival, confirmed this tidbit: "Yeah, they're both playing, but some of the other details may or may not change." As such, he wouldn't confirm which date each band would play or who they'd share the stage with.
Previously, Barlow has been quoted as saying the opening weekend lineup would be a surprise, but apparently Fair to Midland and Slow Roosevelt didn't get the memo.
Fair to Midland not only included the date on their MySpace concert calendar (Saturday, August 15), but posted a forum topic on their website announcing that they would be playing the show: "we're throwing our thang down. come if you want to. should be pretty cool." Drummer Brett Stowers followed up by teasing that they may or may not be playing new music from their upcoming album.
After an FTM forum commenter speculated the coolness of adding Slow Roosevelt to the mix, a visit to SloRo's MySpace confirmed that they, too, will be playing the Deep Ellum venue on opening weekend. A graphic on the band's site indicates that so far they're booked for August 14 and reads, "So we lied. Kill us," probably referencing not only the upcoming show, but recently reuniting after breaking up.

Good choices for opening weeekend IMHO. A couple of big draw metal bands with huge fan bases from back in the day. I hope Trees is a great success and salute whoever has the guts to revive it. I think there is a lot of local & regional talent that Trees will be a great venue for. I love Deep Ellum and have been saddened by its decline. It seems the only places to hear decent music lately are places like HOB & Nokia....way too sterile for my taste. HOB is a chain, for god's sake. I'd rather go to IHOP, it has more atmosphere. I hope they don't make it TOO nice. Blue Cat was ruined when the owner moved it from its loveably seedy old location and put in matching chairs & tables. I felt like I was at a crappy rib joint. A rock bar should have a suitably "down & dirty" feel, while still maintaing ethical business practices (so long Firewater), cleanliness ( be back soon Dada) & making the customers all feel like VIP's (can't think of one.) Welcome back Trees. I hope you stick around for a long time.
