Kids and family events in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, July 8-14

0

After teasing us with a brief cool-down last week, the temperatures are back to their normal blazing hot. But just 'cause it's hot doesn't mean we can't head outdoors for a bit, right? On tap this week is kid yoga in Dallas, abnormal fairy tale characters in Flower Mound, a peachy festival in Weatherford, and animal petting in Allen.

Park Cities Yoga on Royal Lane in Dallas will present its second session of Kinderyoga: Treasure Trek on Thursday, July 9 and Friday, July 10. The one-hour class gives kids a head-start on relieving stress and increasing confidence through yoga.

The Flower Mound Performing Arts Theatre will begin its production of Into the Woods on Thursday, July 9 (additional performances will continue through the weekend). This twisted fairy tale features an ambivalent Cinderella, a blood-thirsty Little Red Ridinghood, a Prince Charming with a roving eye, and a Witch ... who raps.

People interested in a plethora of peachy products to please the palate should head straight to downtown Weatherford on Saturday, July 11 for the Parker County Peach Festival. This one-day festival promises to provide plenty of peach goodies, along with entertainment by the MJD Band.

Finally, also on Saturday will be the first edition of Peanut Butter and Jamm at the Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm shopping/restaurant/entertainment complex. The oddly-named event (since there seems to be neither food nor music involved) will kick off with Safari Day, during which gentle animals from the Dallas Zoo will be brought out for kids to meet and pet.
