Live music events in Dallas-Fort Worth July 9-12

6

Can you feel it? That's the rhythm calling you out this weekend. Best respond. Rhythm gets angry when ignored.

Thursday

The Granada Theater has Thursday night's show du jour, featuring a Fort Worth band on the rise, The Burning Hotels, and an Austin band with a British lead singer, who happen to have the most annoying band website ever, but with good enough music we're able to forgive them this trespass. Just like hopefully you'll forgive the preceding run-on sentence.

Friday

The Theater Fire, in the middle of two coasts on their U.S. tour, start the first of three local shows on Friday at Lee Harvey's.

Or catch The Paper Chase, fresh off releasing their latest album, Now You Are One Of Us, as they play Dan's Silverleaf with Matthew and the Arrogant Sea and Tre Orsi.

Like your public radio? Well, they need money to keep going and KNON will have a bluesy fundraiser tomorrow night at Poor David's Pub with Bobby Blue Bland.

Harder. Better. Faster. Stronger.

Saturday

The Rock the Block Street Party in Uptown Dallas gets Saturday started off on the right foot with rockin' music for a good cause. With proceeds benefiting Kidd's Kids and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, music starts at 11:30 a.m. and continues into the night, featuring local bands like The Felons, The Orbans, The O's, and The King Bucks. There will also be food and drink available from surrounding restaurants and bars.

Earth Wind and Fire play Nokia Theatre with Chicago.

And, oh my god, say it ain't so, The Push, who we interviewed back in 2006 and went largely silent since, are back on the scene, playing the Barley House with Loose Leaves. We couldn't get that "Long Stairs" song out of our heads back then, and I fear, nay, hope that as the days count down, it will float through the office once again.

Sunday

Save Mayfest. It was canceled because of swine hype and cost the organizers hundreds of thousands of dollars, jeopardizing its return next year. A benefit concert featuring Reckless Kelly, Micky and the Motorcars, and more takes place at LaGrave Field in Fort Worth starting at 11:30 a.m.

See something we missed? Let us know in the comments. Don't forget to check out the daily Peg Picks for more event suggestions from Pegasus News staffers.
