Third branch of Twisted Root Burger Company opens in Roanoke
Twisted Root Burger Company has opened a third branch in Roanoke, part of the Oak Street Plaza that will also be home to a branch of Twisted Root sibling Cowboy Chow, scheduled to open in September.
This story says that Twisted Root management received financial inducements to settle its two restaurants there.
Roanoke's rich with new restaurants: Another is going into a renovated building nearby: One Fish Two Fish, to be opened this summer by the owners of Thai Chili in Southlake.

This makes it sound like someone got a kickback.
The restaurants received incentives from the Roanoke Economic Development Corporation to open there.

Looks like most of the REDC sales tax money goes to other things besides Direct Business Incentives like the $45,000 it spent last year, which is pittance. I am betting some kind of tax abatement was involved, and the $300k forgivable loan from the city. Nothing wrong with that if it means more development for the city and more businesses and more jobs period.

Ate lunch at the Twisted Root Burger Company today. It was AWFUL. No sweet potato chips, no bison hamburger, no venison hamburger, the ice machine was broken. Beef hamburger was tasteless - only ate half of it. String fried onions were soggy. Announcement system was terrible - silly names and it sounded like nails on a blackboard. The city of Roanoke certainly wasted tax payers money on supporting this restaurant.

Maybe they just need to get squared away and make some adjustments?

I too ate at Twisted Root today. Food was a 10. From the ketchup, BBQ sauce, juicy Western Burger, Fried Pickles, atmosphere, .. you name it. Asked someone why they didn't have sweet potato chips or bison burger .. their equipment guy was trying to fix the machines that make those things. Restaurants often have issues with equipment when they first open. The 'soul' of a restaurant is not established its first month. NO BIG DEAL jlaurie. In fact, they had Venison burgers, my friend ate one. Don't know, don't care how much they gave them, they picked a perfect partner for Babe's. I'll be back at least twice a week.
