Dallas police officers report two toy gun close calls this week
The Dallas Police Department (DPD) reported two incidents this week (in unspecified Far North Dallas locations) involving officers drawing their weapons on suspects who appeared to be brandishing firearms. In both cases, however, the guns turned out to be toy replicas.
One of the incidents involved a 26-year-old man (Alejondro Whaley) who -- it turns out -- was wanted for outstanding warrants. He was arrested at the scene on charges totally unrelated to toy gun brandishing.
The other drawn-gun encounter involved a 15-year-old boy hanging out with a friend in an apartment parking lot with a plastic pellet pistol. Neighbors had apparently called the police, thinking it was a real weapon.
Sadly for those of us who grew up having pretend shootouts with our neighborhood pals, it looks like the carefree days of playing with toy guns are probably over.
