Carrollton man dies while river rafting in Colorado
There's nothing lazy about the Arkansas River at the point where it emerges from the Rocky Mountains north of Leadville, CO. Commercial float trips out of Buena Vista and elsewhere cater to those seeking white water rafting thrills.
On Thursday (July 9), 49-year-old Carrollton resident David Campbell was aboard a commercially-operated river raft on a guided expedition when his boat flipped over after hitting a rock. He and the other occupants were ejected from the craft, though all eventually made it safely into other boats (or ashore). However, Campbell suffered an apparent heart attack and died following the capsizing.
Campbell's 17-year-old son Connor was climbing a mountain at the time of the accident, and learned later that evening of his father's death on the river.
