Updated: Six North Texas cities make Forbes‘ “America’s 25 Best Places to Move” list
McKinney was recently named as one of the 25 Best Places to Move in the country by Forbes.com, coming in at #9. Out of the list of 25, six cities are in the Dallas metropolitan area, including Flower Mound at #6, Frisco at #7, McKinney at #9, Carrollton at #12, Allen at #19, and Plano at #25.
In compiling their list, Forbes.com considered factors in cities with populations of 25,000 + and data taken from the 2000 to 2005 Census, including the number of residents who were born out of state, number of residents who moved to a city to take a job, the number of people who moved from long distances or abroad, and the number who moved to a location within 1 and 5 years. Also considered were factors like number of professional jobs, population growth, income averages, home price and age and proximity to large companies.

Just because you move to some city to take a job doesn't necessarily make it a great place to move. It might have just been the option that sucked least, especially when the alternative is unemployment, starvation, death.

5 years ago I left Northern VA (list has 2 cities very close to where I lived for 20 years, Centreville and Leesburg) for McKinney by choice. If you look at the details of the cities, you will see the median home price more than double in those cities. Having lived there, that description doesn't do it justice. A $400k house in Northern VA is more like a $125k house in North Texas.
I hear people in North Texas complain about traffic. I'll admit, it's bad at times, but it's NOTHING like Atlanta, Washington DC, NY, Chicago and LA and San Fran.
Now factor in the fact that Frisco, McKinney, Allen and Plano all border each other -- not a bad choice!
