Brian Hughes’ Musical Chair Jamboree celebrates anniversary at Green Elephant July 23

1

The Brian Hughes’ Music Chair Jamboree at The Green Elephant is celebrating its one-year anniversary. Below you can find the email announcement:

-------------------

Fifty-two of anything in a row is quite a feat.  Fifty-two straight performances at the same venue in Dallas is a miracle, or lunacy.  Either way, Thursday night, July 23, at The Green Elephant, Brian Hughes’ Music Chair Jamboree is celebrating its 52nd straight Thursday night Jamboree.  Mr. Hughes is throwing a huge party as he welcomes Brothers and Sisters from Austin and the Jamboree’s house band, City Folk, to the stage.  The door is just $5 and, perhaps most importantly in these downtrodden economic times, the first keg is on Brian.

The music starts at 8:30 p.m. with DJ JT playing his eclectic mix of indie rock, country greats, and always a little something to make you dance.  Next up at 10pm is the Jamboree’s house band, City Folk.  They will tear through all of the favorites from Eddie Rabbit, to Buck Owens, throw in some Kenny Rogers and they might even end up with a little Kings of Leon. You never know. Then at midnight, the headliners and a personal favorite of The Jamboree, Brothers and Sisters take the stage.

Here’s what Will Sheff of Okkervil River writes about Brothers and Sisters:

Brothers and Sisters

Brothers and Sisters is a band out of time. Led by real-life siblings Will and Lily Courtney, their music entirely lacks the calculated cool of contemporary indie rock and seems totally oblivious to the cynical machinations of the music business.  Live, the music called up by this stage-cluttering eight-piece alternately evokes classic-rock gods like the Band and Buffalo Springfield alongside songwriters such as Dennis Wilson, Jimmy Webb, and the Mamas and the Papas' John Phillips on his out-of-print classic John, the Wolf King of L.A.

Brian Hughes’ Musical Chair Jamboree has a simple formula: Play music you love, play it well and play it with as many people as possible. The roots of The Jamboree are deeply entwined with the Hughes Family Reunion -- a semi-annual tradition on the shores of Lake Eufala, Okla.  Every night there is a circle of musicians, playing different selections from the same classic country catalog using whatever instruments and/or musicians happen to be there.  The Musical Chair Jamboree is doing the same thing on the stage of The Green Elephant every Thursday night.  The formula brings together some strange bedfellows, but it is guaranteed to put a smile on any music lover’s face.

This is going to be a great night of music, friends, drinks, and atmosphere.  It is a way to say thanks for all of the support for the last year and look forward to the next.
