NTTA posts “wrong way” signs on Tollway
After way too many cases of wrong-way drivers on the Tollway, the North Texas Tollway Authority is taking action. They've posted 25 wrong way signs and will be installing road reflectors on all 47 ramps, to tell those trying to enter an exit ramp that they're not doing something right.
CBS 11 says the changes came hours after they ran an investigation that showed that only one exit carried reflectors to warn drivers they were going the wrong way. We've got to hand it to our PegNews writers and readers -- we've been saying it too.

Really? Really? How long has the tollway been in existence that you don't realize which direction it goes? It's not like the switch sides of the road every other day.
"Oh gee, driving this direction sucks, let's flip sides!"

James Scott, says:
I think most of the wrong-way cases involved drunk drivers (or at least the ones that involved fatality accidents), so yeah, you would hope the non-inebriated would've figured it out by now.
Although, that begs the question as to whether or not someone under the influence that is so far gone to realize they're driving on the wrong side of the tollway is going to really notice a couple extra signs and reflectors.

Since the 60,s Burlyqueen, it was once the old Katy Railroad that road out of Dallas to Mckinney Texas.......people ask me why I have lived in the dark hole for so many years and I say this,Dallas growing up,was not a dark hole, it was a light hole full of dreams and the tollway was one of them, you cold go to North Park, avoid Central and end up in North Dallas....
That was 40 year ago.....and you know what,it is a respect the old Dallas and those early folks who made the tollway that road....hey I dont even drive.......A/T, Almish feet and second's at the Dallas North Tollway...

This idea must have been thunk up by somebody at Dallas Parks & Recreation. (They LOVE signs and truly believe that posting them will alter human behavior).

I think we overestimate people's familiarity with roads we use all the time. In a new town, or in this sprawling eternity of pavement, you can easily get befuddled.
With the new "cashless" mandate (a simple precursor to NTTA subcutaneous homing implants), the booths are going away and a bunch of little apparent "medians" will be left for distracted, new or visiting drivers to mistake for two way streets.
The more signs the better.
I harken back to the chaffing the Brits took when they decided a simple way to cut down tourist fatalities was to paint the "bloody obvious" on the roadways near curbs.
Sure the locals scoffed, but it friggin' worked.

Agreed Travis - We have to do something to justify doubling tolls on a road that was paid for 10 years ago.

Eh, I always look both ways just in case there is some idiot coming the wrong way. I guess I'll do fine in London whenever I go to take over.
