The Grape in Dallas deemed best burger in Texas in yet-another best burger list

If you wanna generate lots of clicks and links, all you gotta do is write the words "best burger."

One cheap-and-easy way to get yourself loads of clicks n links n media frenzy is to write a story about "best burgers." Texas Monthly has succumbed with its "50 best in Texas" which Nancy at D's SideDish has been industrious enough to cut and paste. Thank you, Nancy, for that, we give you another link. That's two links in a row, which is two more than the people at Belo gave you, even though they copied your list.

Anyway, a local restaurant got the #1 slot, and Dallas-Fort Worth got a total of 10 on the list (which have been bolded and linked, see below). Take it away, Nancy (make that three!):

TLS, anonymous:

Of course any restaurant would love this state wide attention but do you think The Grape is going to relish (see what I did there?) this attention for a burger? Are they going to get an influx of people who just want the burger and pass on their other great dishes thereby influencing the whole dynamic of the place? I wonder.

Where is La Gubbins when we need here? *(Guess answer; foraging for smelling salts after reading this 'best of' bomb blast.)*

These 'best of' lists are generally speaking....naturally.... on a good day, arbitrary and subjective. On a bad day, they are preposterous and even occassionally incestuous (as we gathered learning more about those 'astroturfing' restaurant reviews).

To the latter point: I remember overhearing some guys choosing the 'best' onion rings for a media award and those onion rings they honored were pre-fabs bought at Sam's dropped into hot fat in a local hot spot. The same one’s my neighbor Billie would fry up while chain smoking a Kool. Good but hardly worthy of the ‘winning’ ring.

Too, in this case, to TLS's point(s), it's odd to have the 'best' be a hamburger that is served only some of the time and in a time-honored place that offers an otherwise iconic eclectic dinner menu.
~~~~~~~ <i>Yesterday, while eating a killer hamburger made at my local Fiesta ($2.50) slathered with fresh pico de gallo and other mystery handmade sauces proffered in a free-for-condiment section: I knew to remain aloof when it came to even beginning to discuss or debate hamburgers when I read a Side Dish post referencing Dallas News’ Leslie Brenner’s take on a 'classic backyard burger'. Which featured gruyere cheese on a fresh baked roll. I took another bite of my dripping masterpiece and mumbled to myself "What backyard were you recalling? Oprah's in Santa Barbara?"</i>
