Mayor Tom Leppert and former Astronaut Jim Reilly to speak at managers’ symposium
RICHARDSON Jim Reilly, Ph.D., a retired NASA engineer and astronaut, and Tom Leppert, mayor of Dallas and former CEO of Turner Construction, will be keynote speakers on Aug. 13 at The University of Texas at Dallas. Reilly holds three degrees from UT Dallas.
The Third Annual Project Management Symposium draws managers who oversee projects in a variety of fields — engineering, construction, healthcare, transportation, and overseas projects, among others. "What we see,” says Jim Joiner, director of the Project Management program at UT Dallas School of Management, “are managers from all levels in a company — and from industries across the board — who need better tools to handle their projects. That’s what this symposium is designed to do — give these professionals skills they can take with them next week to more effectively do their jobs."
Joiner says the speakers represent thought leaders in project management, including Tony Parella, president and CEO of Shared Technologies, which has been listed for the past two years as one of Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For.” Parella will be the keynote speaker on the conference’s second day.
The symposium will be hosted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aug. 13 and 14 at the UT Dallas School of Management. Cost is $500 and includes refreshments at breaks, lunch both days and a reception on Thursday evening with heavy appetizers. Project Management Institute members get a $50 discount on registration fees. Attendance will fulfill CPE, CEU or PDU requirements and confirmation of attendance will be distributed on Friday. Go here for complete conference registration and information. Questions may be sent to Debbie Samac at Debbie@utdallas.edu or 972-883-5802.
