Kids and family events in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, July 22-28
Are the doldrums of July hitting us hard? Aside from the glut of summer camps and daily storytimes, there seems to be precious little new or exciting going on in the kids/family area in Dallas / Fort Worth this week. Below are the few that stand out amongst the rest, all of which just happen to be in Dallas.
On Saturday, July 25, the Meadows Museum at SMU will present Diego Rivera in Paris, a chance for families to engage with the Diego Rivera exhibition on display until September 20. The event will include gallery games, hands-on activities, and performances.
Also on Saturday will be a performance by the Grammy-nominated Trout Fishing in America at Poor David's Pub in Dallas. Making their third Dallas / Fort Worth appearance of the year, the folk rock/children's music duo will be putting on a show to benefit the East Dallas Community School.
Those with coulrophobia should avoid the next two events, as clowns feature prominently in both. Slappy and Monday Unwrapped! is performed every Saturday at Slappy's Puppet Playhouse inside the Galleria Dallas. The variety show includes the two titular clowns, along with a string of marionettes and young circus artists.
Finally, marionettes will also play a big role in the Circus Marionette Show with Clown on the Run at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library in Dallas. This show will feature "a European-style marionette show," something that's sure to set it apart from all the others.
