Group to rally in Dallas for democracy in Iran
A group of local, Iran Democracy concerned people will peaceably assemble at Dealey Plaza to show solidarity with Iranian democrats at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 25.
SMU alumna Mora Namdar ('08) was the inaugural graduate of the Human Rights Program. She has spearheaded local event efforts while juggling her law degree and masters in international affairs from American University in Washington D.C.
"I believe that the people in Iran should have the basic human rights they have been fighting for and deprived of for the past 30 years," Namdar wrote. "The Iranian people deserve to have their voices heard, their wishes respected, and their human rights respected."
Both members of the American Iranian community and others will speak out against tyrannical rule in Iran. Video will be posted on the internet where principal organizer Shawn Amoei hopes it will be viewed by Iranians.
According to Amoei, "It will be heartwarming for the people in Iran to see this."
The American Iranian National Affairs Committee helped organize the local event for the global campaign, United for Iran.
