Dallas city officials pondering chicken sales

If we let chickens into our city, it's only a matter of time before they start eating us.

If we let chickens into our city, it's only a matter of time before they start eating us.

Urban chicken farming. It's picking up steam as folks are looking for greener, animal friendlier food options, raising some demand for chickens in the area. One local nursery, North Haven Gardens, is planning to cater to the demand by selling chickens in Dallas, but city officials aren't sure where it fits in with current code.

Though the chicken breeder got the go-ahead from various city departments, he received a call in June from then City Council member Mitchell Rasansky saying people were complaining. Zoning planner Jennifer Hiromoto plans to meet with North Haven on Tuesday and hopes to soon settle where you can sell chickens in Dallas and whether North Haven specifically can do so under current code.

UPDATE: The meeting happened Tuesday, but the issue still isn't settled. Officials denied the rezoning request, but said they would consider the issue again next week after North Haven gives them more information.

Thanks for the link to this article. I think that NHG is actually in Ms. Linda Koop's council district.

That would be great as long as roosters aren't allowed..

did anyone find out who actually complained? I haven't heard one voice of opposition other than the former councilperson having an issue with it.
