Some cell phones are more easily recycled than others.

The Lancaster Police Department (LPD) and the 911 Cell Phone Bank are announcing their partnership to benefit victims of crime and senior citizens. The 911 Cell Phone Bank is a nonprofit organization that provides no-cost emergency cell phones to law enforcement and victim services agencies nationwide.

Under the agreement, the Lancaster Police Department will collect used cell phones in the community which will be submitted to the 911 Cell Phone Bank for refurbishing and redistribution. In return, the 911 Cell Phone Bank will provide LPD with 911 phones, to be used for various emergency and community service needs.

The Lancaster Police Department’s Crime Victim Assistance Division is committed to the recognition and implementation of victim rights and services. “With the expansion of our Crime Victim Assistance Division, July is a great month to announce this partnership. It is also a good opportunity to provide the community with a more immediate and compassionate reason to recycle their useless old cell phones,” said Chief of Police Keith L. Humphrey.

Residents who have used cell phones no longer being utilized are encouraged to drop them off at the City of Lancaster Public Safety Building, 1650 N. Dallas Avenue, Lancaster, TX, 75134. Organizations or businesses wanting to create a drop off point at their location should contact the Lancaster Police Department.

For additional information about the cell phone drive or volunteer opportunities with the Crime Victims Assistance Division, contact Nakeya Fincher, 972-218-2751 or nfincher@lancaster-tx.com.
