Dallas nanotech pioneer James Von Ehr to receive TechAmerica Texas Legends Award
TechAmerica Texas announced James Von Ehr, founder and chairman of Zyvex Corporation, as the recipient of the TechAmerica Texas Legends Award, presented by Scott & Scott. The annual award honors a person or company that has made an exemplary contribution to Texas technology. Von Ehr will be honored at the 2009 Metroplex Technology Business Council's Tech Titans Awards Gala on August 28.
Von Ehr, a pioneer and widely respected leader within the nanotechnology industry, founded Zyvex in 1997. He personally contributed $3.5 million to establish the University of Texas at Dallas NanoTech Institute. Among his greatest achievements are: the endowment of the UTD James Von Ehr Distinguished Chair of Science and Technology; establishment of the Texas Nanotechnology Initiative; and the introduction of the "James Von Ehr Scholars Program" at Michigan State University. He also holds seven patents.
Von Ehr is the third person to be named as a Texas Legend. Past winners include Gene Frantz of Texas Instruments and Pike Powers of Fulbright & Jaworski.
