US 75 in Plano to be closed three more nights to complete demolition of Parker Road bridge

— The Texas Department of Transportation wants to make sure the US 75 and Parker Road bridge demolition planned for tonight is cleaned up and out of the way well ahead of tomorrow’s Central Expressway rush hour traffic. To accomplish this, demolition crews will tear down most of the concrete pavement of the old Parker Road bridge over southbound US 75 mainlanes. The remainder of that section, including pavement and support beams, will be removed Friday evening.

Crews have completed half of the demolition of the Parker Road bridge. Three more nights of closures are required to complete the demolition of the portion over southbound U.S. 75 mainlanes and frontage road. The remaining nightly closures will take place as follows:

● Southbound US 75 Mainlanes: Thurs., July 30, 10 p.m. to Fri., July 31, 6 a.m.

● Southbound US 75 Mainlanes: Fri., July 31, 10 p.m. to Sat., Aug. 1, 6 a.m.

● Southbound US 75 Frontage Road: Sat., Aug 1, 10 p.m. to Sun., Aug. 2, 6 a.m.

The nightly closures are necessary to ensure the safety of the traveling public, as well as the contractor, while the demolition takes place. Message boards announcing the lane closures have been placed along US 75 to notify the public of the closures. Law enforcement will be present to assist with traffic control.

The demolition is part of a $20 million construction project to convert the US 75 and Parker Road interchange from a standard, grade-separated bridge to a single-point urban interchange. The estimated project completion is fall 2010.
