UPDATED: All of Dallas Morning News‘ various blogs and sites are down on Friday

Updated 03:08 p.m., July 31, 2009

— Is the Dallas Morning News having some kind of online crisis? All of their various sites are down, from DallasNews.com to the metrocolumnists blog to my personal favorite, the Denton Record Chronicle site, and have been for most of the morning. Some kind of server issue? Emails are going unanswered, as well, although that may be more about me than it is the newspaper. Ha ha ha. Without Eats up and running, how can we find out what kind of meal DMN writer Kim Pierce cooked for their dining critic?

UPDATE: Looks like they're back up, based on the Twitter post from @dallas_news: "It looks like the site is back up. Are you able to see it? Is everything working?" Wow, let's prank them and say it's not.

UPDATE: At 2:15 p.m. they posted a comment on their various blogs that said they're experiencing "intermittent access" to their main news site and invite people to visit their bloooggggs and then they list them, and they have 51 of them. 51 dang blogs. That's insane.

Now see - TGubb THIS is news I can use.

The odds of actually NEEDING DallasNews Arts coverage is... well... not as likely as my tuning in to a Tajikistan online radio station since their reporters pretty much do all their coverage exclusively from cubicles. But on the offhand chance I have to appear to care about the four isolated events they always cover... I can name drop with the best of 'em.

Bless you TGubb.

Looks like a Belo-wide thing -- main Belo site is down, along with the first few affiliates I checked.

Belos sites in NoTex are pretty much worthless these days anyways, seeing the amount of advertising they have on there...

Now it says "we are experiencing catastrophic problems" at both wfaa.com and dallasnews.com Kinda sad, what if they completely crashed and lost everything in thier database!

Maybe it'll reset the cryogenic crypt they kept Chip Moody in all these years...

Russ, hopefully they have a good IT department that keeps regular backups of their database. Even if they lost everything in the production database, they should be able to restore from a nightly backup that was kept isolated from the production environment. If they did somehow lose everything irretrievably, it would be a sign of an IT department that probably wasn't as prepared as they should be for disaster.

I am the editor of the Web site. The newspaper company and the TV company share technology that failed early Friday morning, causing our Web publishing systems to become inaccessible. It has taken until now for a team of technology experts to restore some functionality. Our blogs are published outside our core Web sites and as a result did not lose service.

Anthony,..good job, I see things are back up and running. You ought to visit PEGASUSNEWS.COM more often, they are a new force in Dallas,...I like 'em!

Anthony, another reason to have redundancy when you run sites that size. BTW, Pegasusnews seems a lot less...dare I say....stoic than your employer. Welcome to the pegasus nation....

Even Mark Cuban is chiming in, via Twitter, of course. See his post.

Ah, finally a reason to look at a twitter feed of some sort....

...oh, wait. Maybe not.

Was that sampling of monkeys at keyboards significant in a way I don't yet comprehend?
