Dallas Arboretum to host storybook collection exhibition
A fantasy world filled with figurative art that even the most seasoned collector can appreciate awaits guests at The Dallas Arboretum this summer from June 1 through August 31. In conjunction with the Storybook Playhouse exhibit that is sponsored by Lambert's and features 14 whimsical playhouses designed by local architects, the DeGolyer Estate brings the stories alive with this fabulous collection.
Arboretum benefactors John and Kim Semyan have lent a part of their 10,000-piece storybook collection to decorate the historic DeGolyer Estate on the grounds of the botanical gardens. Designer, Michael Hamilton, from the Noel Christmas Store in Dallas, TX, is the mastermind behind this summer's decorating within the DeGolyer Estate.
Guests of The Dallas Arboretum will be transported to the pages of beloved fairy tales with the help of various decorative vignettes that will be placed throughout the DeGolyer Estate. Each vignette, nestled within festive decorations, will tell beloved stories and nursery rhymes including 'Rumplestiltskin', 'The Owl and the Pussycat', 'Hansel and Gretel', 'The Old Woman in the Shoe' and many more. Adults and children alike can read the story as they see the characters set the scene from some of the most enchanting stories in history. The pieces of figurative art that tell each story are handcrafted by renowned artist Faith Wick.
Faith Wick's characters continue to amaze as guests continue their tour throughout the DeGolyer Estate. Journey through the adventures of Alice in Wonderland as she explores her many escapades including tea with The Mad Hatter and The Cheshire Cat, sharing lessons with that pesky Caterpillar atop his tall mushroom, and Alice riding away through Wonderland, on a giant Flamingo. Their exquisite detail truly captures the Semyan's love of whimsy and fun that flows throughout their collection.
