The Rangers certainly seem to be taming the once-wild AL West
Rangers starter Brandon McCarthy continued Texas' impressive string of starting pitching performances, getting out of a tight jam in the first inning before settling down for the win. McCarthy retired 12 straight batters at one point, allowing just three hits and three walks over six innings, and improving his record to 5-2 with a 4.35 ERA.
Six Ranger hitters had multi-hit games, as the team as a whole collected 17 hits on the night. Marlon Byrd went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a home run and a walk, while Elvis Andrus hit 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI. Michael Young also collected three hits, including two doubles.
Other Rangers with big days included leadoff hitter Ian Kinsler, who went 2-for-3 with a two-run double and a two-run single to up his RBI totals to 39 in 50 games. Nelson Cruz and Hank Blalock also had multi-hit games, and both hit solo home runs in the barrage.
