Texas Rangers 6, Oakland A’s 3
ARLINGTON The Texas Rangers defeated yet another division foe in the first game of a doubleheader Friday, winning 6-3 over the Oakland A's at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The win improved Texas to 28-19 on the season.
Emergency Rangers starter Tommy Hunter pitched well in his first game of the season, lasting five-plus innings and giving up just three runs on seven hits. Four Rangers relievers then took over for Hunter, throwing three and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief. C.J. Wilson got credit for the win while Frank Francisco pitched a scoreless ninth for his 11th save.
Despite collecting just six hits all game, the Rangers made the most of what they had with three home runs. Down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Marlon Byrd hit a solo home run to tie it, before Andruw Jones and Nelson Cruz belted home runs in the eighth to pull ahead for good.
