Connemara Conservancy announces June event schedule
Summer has arrived and Connemara Conservancy Meadow Preserve is kicking off the season with a series of June events for the North Texas community.
The land trust is offering guided walks and more for the general public at The Meadow, the organization’s 72-acre land preservation on the border of Allen and Plano, just off Alma Drive. The schedule includes:
Sunday, June 7, 8 – 10 a.m.: Bird Walk with Gailon Brehm and Rodney Thomas
Bring your binoculars and field guides, and learn what to watch for in habits, characteristics and calls from experts Brehm and Thomas of Prairie and Timbers Audubon Society. Expect about 30+ species. All ages are welcome.
Saturday, June 13, 9 – 11 a.m.: Waterways and Habitat Walk with RJ Taylor
Join RJ Taylor, conservation director for Connemara Conservancy, in exploring the Meadow Preserve's streams, ponds and forested areas. Learn about the geological history of the area and examine the erosion and deposition processes that carved the landscape and how different soils and land elevations have lead to different vegetation groupings on the property.
Saturday, June 20, 9 – 11 a.m.: First Day of Summer Walk with Jim Varnum
Celebrate the summer solstice - the day when the Sun is farthest north – with Texas Master Naturalist Jim Varnum and a walk through The Meadow. Learn about the early summer grasses and wildflowers. Bring cameras, binoculars, water, sun protection and insect repellent.
Registration, directions, parking information and details on what to bring to the events are available at www.connemaraconservancy.org.
