Dallas’ Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children patients awarded Legacy Scholarships

Twenty Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC) patients will receive the Legacy Scholarship for the first time, and a total of 116 scholars will receive $187,200 from the program. Since 1986, the Legacy Scholarship Program has awarded more than 1,700 scholarships to current and former TSRHC patients, totaling more than $2,225,000.

“The goal of our scholarship program is to support the hospital’s former patients by helping them succeed through higher education,” said Gladys Kolenovsky, president of the Legacy Scholarship Program. “The Legacy Scholarship Program, a separate 501(c)3 organization, is made possible by devoted friends and donors who encourage patients to continue on their educational journey toward achieving their dreams.”

Recently, Legacy Scholarship Program board members as well as patient families and special friends gathered to present scholarships to recipients during an awards ceremony and picnic at the hospital. Eighteen former Legacy Scholarship recipients, who graduate from colleges and universities across the country this year, were honored in a graduation ceremony for their individual achievements, as well as their educational advancement.

Legacy Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of financial need, academic record and challenges met. Former Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children patients choosing to attend a college, university, technical or trade school may apply for the scholarships.
