New York Yankees 8, Texas Rangers 6

The Texas Rangers snatched defeat from the jaws of victory Thursday afternoon, losing 8-6 to the New York Yankees at the new Yankees Stadium. The loss dropped Texas to 31-22, a half game behind New York for the best record in the American League.

Rangers starter Brandon McCarthy kept the potent Yankees lineup in check until the fifth inning, when a bases-loaded walk and a three-run bases-clearing double from Mark Teixeira chased the young pitcher. McCarthy finished with six runs allowed over four innings of work.

C.J. Wilson gave up a two-run home run to Melky Cabrera in the bottom of the eighth for his third loss of the season.

The Rangers were far more competitive than in previous losses to the Yankees, which were generally one-sided blowouts. Chris Davis went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI, while Michael Young went 3-for-5 with a double to raise his average to .338.

Nelson Cruz and Ian Kinsler both hit home runs in the ridiculously homer-friendly "confines" of Yankee Stadium, which is on an all-time record pace for home runs in a single park.
