Final public hearing on so-called “improvement project” at 114 and Loop 12 in Irving is June 9

IRVING — The Texas Department of Transportation and City of Irving welcome citizens to a Public Hearing for the State Highway 114 and Loop 12 Improvement Project around the Diamond Interchange in Irving. The hearing will be Tuesday, June 9, at the Irving Arts Center, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd.

An open house will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the formal hearing at 7 p.m. During the open house, citizens will be allowed to examine project exhibits and ask questions of project staff members one-on-one. During the hearing, there will be a presentation of the proposed project and a public comment period afterward.

The project location is on SH 114 from east of International Parkway to SH 183 and Loop 12 from Texas Plaza Drive to the Loop 12/1-35E split. Construction of the proposed project would involve widening the existing four- to six-lane roadway to a six- to eight-lane roadway with tolled four-lane (two-lanes each direction) concurrent managed high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes.

The tolled concurrent Managed HOV lanes project is a joint coordination effort between TxDOT, the North Texas Tollway Authority, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, and the Regional Transportation Council. In addition, as part of the project the existing two-lane frontage roads would be widened to three lanes and new three-lane frontage roads would be constructed along sections of the proposed project that do not currently have them. Direct connectors to major cross-roads would also be constructed.

No business or residential properties would be displaced and the proposed project would not adversely affect the 100-year floodplain.

Verbal and written comments relative to the proposed project may be presented at the hearing or written comments may be submitted on or before Friday, June 19, 2009 to Maurice Pittman, P.E. TxDOT North West Dallas Area Office, 12000 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243.
