No more Grammys for Denton’s Brave Combo; polka dropped from awards

The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced on Thursday that it will drop the Best Polka Album category from the Grammy awards, claiming a desire to stay current. Denton-based Brave Combo frontman Carl Finch told AP that he believed part of the reason for its removal was that the category was dominated by one man, Jimmy Sturr. While Brave Combo have taken the award two years, 1999 and 2004, Sturr has won 18 times in the 24 years the category has existed.

Sturr told LehighValleyLive.com, his hometown news service, that he would continue to enter his albums into whatever categories the academy would allow.
