Urbanmarket in downtown Dallas shrinking, having troubles
DALLAS As hinted at by savvy Pegasus News user DC, the Urbanmarket in downtown Dallas is undergoing some bumps. The cafe/bar shut down last month, and the beer-wine-and-snacks section is going to be consolidated into the rest of the store. The economy is screwing things up, although it seems like this store has never really stayed afloat without government assistance. But the owners vow to keep it open.

This is a shame, what a disaster for downtown Dallas if it does finally close after scaling down. (I hear they also have stopped selling beer and wine) I use downtown Dallas quite often nowadays, they NEED a good grocery store there. I never have figured out WHY, WHY did we ever build those underground tunnels and networks in downtown. Sure it is convenient, but it also is bad, it has the street life and sidewalks looking dead during the work week. Downtown Dallas,... great city but still a bit confused, we are one of a kind.

What a shame! I used to live in the InterUrban Building attached to the UrbanMarket and it felt good to be able to walk downstairs for groceries, wine, breakfast tacos... this is sad. I wish worthy business would pick back up. This is indeed a worthy business.

I Eat there everyday ,....and I was and was not suprised..you know when they charge so much for this or that, you give in after a while and then you ask yourself....while they give me something in return later on, like keeping this place open....The inner city really sucks....I work here most days and that is the truth....or should I tell a good old boy Dallas Promoters lie.....like....come and save at Pirates, the food store of desire and dollars... everthing is ok..A/T, ..Dialing for dollars in dallas, the ideal place with a dumpster...

I bet the CVS on Main is killing them on simple groceries and the Jason's Deli is killing them on food.

Chasdoo,.......good point...while the problem is the crowd affair, that makes inner city life a boom,
And if you have underground shops and Cafes, and then street Cafes......then there are good hole in the wall's and their are bad one too, while the homeless population is down 60 percent...The Urban on Jackson Street, is just not hot enough to be self centered as CVS And Jason would do,
While there are other new and good places to eat That have opened up...they dont compeate...7 days a week...A/T,..Eye ball on the Urban Market news......

Honestly, have you traveled the subterranean walkways. They are terrible. I know of only three buildings (Republic Tower, Renaissance Tower, BoA Tower) that have any decent tenants (eateries/stores). Everything that is worth it in Downtown is either not connected or is street level accessible.
It is just easier to hop a DART train to explore areas beyond Downtown. Target @ CityPlace, CentralMarket @ Lover's and soon there will be WholeFoods @ Park
