Burleson’s free household hazardous waste collection event draws almost 150 people
Approximately 147 Burleson residents took advantage of the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection event May 30. This was a free collection for City of Burleson residents.
The most popular item dropped off at the City’s old service center on Main Street was old paint. This year, compact fluorescent light bulbs became a more popular disposal item. The household hazardous waste collected May 30 was loaded in to the City of Fort Worth’s Crud Cruiser.
CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) members surveyed those who participated in the collection and helped direct traffic during the May 30 event.
Burleson residents don’t have to wait for the next collection. Residents, with a City of Burleson water or solid waste bill, may take their household hazardous waste to the Environmental Collection Center (ECC), 6400 Bridge St., Fort Worth. The ECC is open on Thursdays and Fridays, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
The list of what is accepted includes acids, aerosol cans, antifreeze, batteries (all kinds, including car batteries), brake fluid, cooking oil, craft and hobby chemicals, degreasers, drain cleaner, fertilizer, fluorescent light bulbs, herbicides, household chemicals, motor oil, paint and stain, paint thinner, pest strips, pesticides, pharmaceuticals (old medication), photography chemicals, pool chemicals, oil filters, solvents, transmission fluid, varnish and mercury thermometers.
On the “not to be accepted” list is ammunition, appliances, asbestos, brush, building materials, butane cylinders, computers, electronics, explosives, PCBs, propane cylinders, radioactive material, smoke detectors, syringes and tires.
For more information about the household hazardous waste collection, call the City’s environmental services division at 817-447-5410, ext. 269. For more information about the ECC, call 817-392-EASY (3279).
