The Texas Rangers bounced back nicely Sunday from their poor hitting performance the night earlier, defeating the Boston Red Sox 6-3 to close out their three-game series at Fenway. The win improved Texas to 33-23 on the season, tied for the best record in the American League and 4.5 games above the LA Angels for the lead in the AL West.
The Rangers rebounded from a two-hit, one-run effort Saturday to pound Boston for twelve hits and a pair of home runs. Nelson Cruz, who has been phenomenal since moving to the clean-up spot, went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and a home run. Cruz, who scored three runs, now has 17 home runs on the season, tying him for the American League lead.
Left fielder David Murphy also had a great day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a two-run double in the third. Michael Young went 2-for-5 with a solo home run to open the scoring in the top of the first inning.
Rangers starter Vicente Padilla, who was put on waivers by Texas earlier in the week, pitched seven strong innings against Boston, surrendering just three runs --two of them earned-- on just four hits. Padilla improved his record to 4-3 with a 5.22 ERA.
