UPDATED: Burleson to break ground on new sports complex
Updated 05:12 p.m., June 15, 2009
Burleson city officials and other dignitaries will break ground on Chisenhall Farms Sports Complex on Wednesday, June 17, at 10 a.m. Chisenhall Farms is being constructed on what is now Chisenhall Park land on Hidden Creek Parkway in south Burleson.
The softball/baseball megaplex will cost an estimated $14.7 million. In Phase 1, Chisenhall Farms will include one football field, eight dedicated baseball fields, two joint-use baseball/softball fields, three dedicated softball fields, and two day-use-only softball fields. All the fields in Phase 1 are fully lighted. In Phase 2, the joint-use fields will become dedicated baseball fields and the day-use fields will be completed with lights and cover. The park will also include two concession stands/restrooms, a play area, pavilion, covered spectator seating, backstop netting and numerous other amenities.
In keeping with the name, the ballpark has a farm theme, which is used throughout Chisenhall Farms in its buildings, walkways and antique style lighting. The park is also heavily landscaped with native trees and ornamental grasses. Chisenhall Farms Sports Complex construction is funded through a combination of voter-approved general obligation bonds and gas royalty revenues. The park is expected to be open for spring league 2010 play.
UPDATE: The groundbreaking for Chisenhall Farm Sports Complex is being postponed due to a conflict that morning with city management and council. The new date and time is to be determined later.
