At 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, WomenInFilm Dallas (WIF.D) will present an evening of short films by WIF.D members at the Studio Movie Grill in Addison.
The showcase will conclude with a Q&A session with the filmmakers, moderated by Chris Weidner of ShortFilmTexas.com.
Says Chick Flicks co-chair and WIF.D board member Jessica Schoenbaechler: "These four films represent not only a diversity of stories and styles, but also the diversity of WIF.D members - documentaries and fiction films, professionals and students, men and women media makers. This showcase promises to be an evening of heartfelt stories, beautiful cinematography, genuine laughter and sweet surprises."
The four films (and the filmmakers responsible for them) are:
* A Tale for Shmuli (Omar Milano)
A Tale for Shmuli is a story of how courage and determination can help us overcome the most unexpected situations. After volunteering for WIF.D's public service announcement for The Bridge Breast Network, filmmaker Omar Milano discovered the touching story of David and Angela and their personal struggle with breast cancer. Through The Bridge, Omar learned that about 2,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year in men. A Tale for Shmuli was named Best Student Short at last September's Thin Line Film Festival in Denton.
Omar Milano is a graduate student at the University of North Texas, pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in documentary production.
* A Noble Way (Taama Forasiepi)
Upon learning disturbing news, Mark and Jeannie, a young engaged couple, decide to investigate the deepest recesses of their Hill Country ranch. Soon they discover a strange house and a mysterious paternal connection begins to unfold. Will Mark Noble determine if love is stronger than pride?
Taama Forasiepi is a producer/director with GETmill, Inc. where she specializes in industrial videos. A Noble Way is her first fiction film.
* Women @ Work (Anna Bussart-Dewell)
Women @ Work looks at three everyday women who have found their place in the work force alongside men. Featuring candid discussions on feminism, education, motherhood, and experiences working with men, Women @ Work shows the passion these women have for their vocations.
Anna Dewell-Bussart is the Project Coordinator for the College of Arts and Science at Texas Woman's University. After graduating in December 2008 from UNT with a MFA in Radio, Television, and Film, she researches and works on documentary films in the area.
* I'll Take Care of You (Angie Alexander)
Imagine being alone and lost in the piney woods of east Texas. The sun is going down and you make a call to your satellite navigation provider because they always put you on the right path. . . . right? I'll Take Care of You is a fun ride for any woman who has dreamed of getting even.
After working for the BBC and Stephen Spielberg's Shoah Foundation, Texas native Angie Alexander founded Tempest Production Company to create educational films and documentaries. She's directed a series of historical docs for the Irving Independent School District as well as the city's official centennial documentary. Angie recently formed a new company, A Girl and a Camera Productions, for narrative projects in conjunction with Tempest Productions.
Tickets are $5 for WIF.D members and $8 for non-members, with proceeds going to benefit WIF.D's annual scholarship program.
